Raspberry Pi

Raspberry PiI got up early on the day of the launch of the Raspberry Pi. I have been looking for a device like this for a long time. Before the age of 10, I was dabbling with electronics, and there was little doubt that was what I was going to do when I grew up. However the Sinclair ZX81 came along, and I was soon writing software for it. My soldering iron got used less and less.

30 years later, I have spent my career in software development. But I never stopped doing electronics, just not as much, and mostly as a hobby. When I did, I would usually try to hook it up to a CPU in one way or another so that I could do some coding. Back in my school days I even won an award at school, being the first pupil to use a computer (ZX Spectrum) on what was an electronics assignment.

Motronic Megasquirt ConvertionI ran my own company for a few years making Fuel Injection systems for classic BMW's, which connected up to a PC. It was fun, and made money, but not a scalable business, and got a bit tedious if im honest.

I'm always coming up with project ideas, but they usually don't get beyond the ideas stage, due to the usual factors, cost & time. Enter the Raspberry Pi. It's cheap.... very cheap, and its able to run powerful programming languages, such as my favourite, C#. This saves time, especially on complex projects.

So I am looking forward to getting mine, to see what I can do with it.
